How Dr. Bernardini’s Office Plays Games to Get More Reviews
In September’s marketing webinar, we were lucky enough to be joined by a panel of practice leaders, including Liliana Bernardini from Dr. Bernardini’s office. She talked about how she plays games with the staff to keep morale high and get new reviews. Her tips are below!
Staff Participation in Review Collection
This is what we do: everything starts with leading by example. We begin by holding a team meeting to explain the importance of reviews and how they align with our mission and culture. We demonstrate how simple it is to ask for reviews in person, right after the service is provded, and when we know the patient is satisfied.
Tip: Make sure to get a QR code that directs to your review page and have it printed and laminated for easy use.
I personally gathered a few reviews to set an example. It’s crucial to build that initial momentum, as it helps spread excitement to the rest of the team.
By the second month of focusing on reviews, I introduced a game for the team: a $50 gift card for the person who gets the most reviews by the end of the month.
Gift Baskets for Patients
We do a monthly drawing for patients who leave reviews. Their names are placed in a basket, and I pick one anonymously. The lucky winner receives a gift basket, which is often pictured in our communications.
Gift Baskets for the Team
After a few months of giving baskets to patients, I noticed the excitement from the team. This inspired me to start creating gift baskets for team members as well. Some months, the winner is the person who gets the most reviews; other months, it’s the team member who secured the review from the basket winner. The idea is to keep things fresh and engaging.
Creating the Gift Baskets
I personally design and create the gift baskets, which I really enjoy. For patients, the baskets always include an electric toothbrush, seasonal goodies, and sometimes a $25 Starbucks or Amazon gift card. I’ve also added gift certificates for local restaurants, inspirational quote signs, candles, mini portable fans for summer, mini cornhole games, journals, dark chocolate, and whitening kits for Valentine’s Day. For fall, I include small pumpkins. I could go on, as this is a passion of mine!
Reinforcing Review Collection
As team dynamics change, it’s important to revisit our approach to collecting reviews. Blumberg’s marketing webinars have recordings from past testimonials about games for review collection, which I play during team meetings to refresh our strategy and spark new ideas.
Keeping the Momentum
When energy dips or participation lags, I use “flash games” to reignite excitement. For instance, if an employee gets 3 reviews in a day, they can choose between a poker chip with a mystery dollar amount or a gift card. If we play as a team to reach a daily review goal, I treat everyone to frozen coffee.
In the end, it’s all about maintaining high energy, enthusiasm, and fun while we work toward our goals!
